Contemplative island building strategy for Oculus Quest announced and alluded to

Developer Purple Yonder and the recently also publisher nDreams studio transform the living room floor of Oculus Quest users into a bustling island idyll. In the Little Cities development strategy announced for spring 2022, entire hours will be built on tranquil little islands, which will then come to life.

The pre-alpha demo we alluded to was still pretty simple. Nevertheless, it aroused the typical desire for the classic principle – especially because everything can be placed so directly and easily in your own environment. The feeling of play is a bit reminiscent of an oversized play carpet, but with lively streets and all kinds of placeable infrastructure.

The well-being of the residents who gradually move in, symbolized by icons, depends not insignificantly on how close their houses are to industrial zones, wind turbines or water towers. Police and fire stations are important for the feeling of security; In addition, schools, hospitals and airports should not be missing. Also included are botanical gardens, aquariums, stadiums and a town hall.

The map can be moved or rotated with the aid of a cursor, which is also used to “draw” streets or buildings. A small, three-dimensional spherical menu opens at the push of a button. With the help of a virtual wristwatch, some values such as the satisfaction of the residents or the budget can be checked. In line with the beginner-friendly concept, the construction on the islands should be, above all, relaxing despite the different challenges. This is reflected, among other things, in the relaxed soundtrack.

We did not need any comfort functions such as an optional grid cage in spite of fast card movements. For players with little space, a jerky turn with an adjustable angle should also be useful.
