E3 2022 ‘Probably’ Has Been Canceled, Says Jeff Grubb

It’s been just over a week since we learned that the E3 2022 in-person event was cancelled. It wasn’t a huge surprise, given the ever-present COVID-19 pandemic, of course. Things could be getting worse, however.

According to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, the E3 digital event may also be canceled. In a recent clip from TikTok, which was uploaded to YouTube, Grubb had the following to say about the industry event:

“E3 has been cancelled. Well, physically it was cancelled, digitally most likely was also cancelled.”

there is an most likely there, so this shouldn’t be taken for granted yet. However, we’re inclined to believe it, given Grubb’s track record and the fact that E3 seems to be on shaky ground right now.

In the absence of E3, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest will likely take place, even if it’s more of a collection of third-party conferences Keighley puts under a banner, rather than a scheduled event.
