Fable has been in development for at least four years, as lead engineer @deltaflux revealed on Twitter, where he showed off a certificate of recognition for another year spent at Playground Games. Particularly revealing is the text commenting on the image:
“Four years working on Fable at Playground Games. I’m so excited about this game.”
After the advertisement trailer in the game engine, about Fable practically nothing is known. Knowing this in the hands of Playground Games, which is launching the excellent Forza Horizon 5 these days, a high quality game is expected, even if it’s really premature to make judgments.
Knowing that a triple-A game has been in development for at least four years (@deltaflux may have been hired early in development) isn’t too surprising, given that so far game development cycles have stretched a lot.
At the moment, however, it’s good to see Fable in 2022, or more realistically in 2023, although to be precise you should have an idea of the size of the project. The studio also has other RPGs in development at early stages.
Playground Games is very dear to Xbox fans, and the Fable franchise is very much loved by this audience as well. Unfortunately, in the past generation she was left out, but we hope her return will be in style. Apparently Microsoft is giving it as much time as it takes to make a great game.
