PETA is campaigning to remove the cockfighting minigame from Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 has been criticized for being more of the same by some critics and fans, but a new gameplay element has been added in the form of cockfight. You collect roosters and play them against others in matches not Mortal Kombat style. Although some players enjoyed this fun, the organization of animal rights PETA did not accept the subject with great pleasure.

A statement was released by PETA’s senior Latin manager, Alicia Aguayo, who is urging that the “horrible bloody sport” be taken out of the game and replaced with something that “don’t glorify cruelty”.

“Turning a bloody horrible sport like cockfighting into a Mortal Kombat-style video game is far from being a real innovation, as today’s society is strongly opposed to forcing animals to fight to the death. Cocks used in cockfights are equipped with sharp spurs that tear through flesh and bone, causing agonizing and fatal wounds. PETA Latino urges Ubisoft to replace this reprehensible minigame with one that doesn’t glorify cruelty. “

At the time this article was written, Ubisoft did not respond to the statement from PETA, but it seems unlikely that the minigame will be removed. It’s also worth noting that the Far Cry series commonly pits you against the animals, sometimes encouraging you to hunt to acquire skins and body parts for upgrades.

PETA was previously not very excited about Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch either. As players were encouraged to collect insects and fish for the museum, PETA gathered to form an in-game protest against the issue. We are curious to see how this plays out..
