Phil Spencer: Xbox is ‘recharging the barrel’ with ambitious new ideas for the future

Phil Spencer, Xbox division leader.

The Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, made a series of appearances on Major Nelson’s podcast recently, talking a little more about the brand plans for the long-term future, including how excited he is for the so-called “Horizon 3” plans.

The Xbox team divides its future plans into “Horizon 1” (immediate future), “Horizon 2” (two or three years away) and “Horizon 3” (up to 10 years away), and they are currently “recharging the tube” to the last part:

“We started a lot of things from Horizon 3 [alguns] years ago. O [Projeto] xCloud was one of them, the Game Pass it was another… I’m excited now is that we’re doing the same thing, we’re refueling the pipe. What are our Horizon 3 stuff? What are the things that, from now on five or ten years, will we be so happy we started today? “

“We need to constantly push the boundaries of what we’re doing, because players will always demand more. We need to invest in it.”

Of course, Xbox’s initial batch of “Horizon 3” plans ended up reinventing the brand after an infamous Xbox One launch period in 2013, with Phil Spencer and his team steering the ship with the introduction of features like Xbox Game Pass, backwards compatibility and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

There’s no telling what they might be working on next, but we can’t wait to find out what Phil has up his sleeve.
