PlayStation acquires Valkyrie Entertainment studio

While Microsoft has bought several studios in recent years it seems that Sony is really following in its footsteps and has just announced yet another acquisition. Hermen Hulst previously announced that Valkyrie Entertainment joined PlayStation Studios. The announcement came via Twitter.

Valkyrie Entertainment are the authors of Guns Up! and are currently helping SIE Santa Monica Studio to make God of War Ragnarok. The team also worked as support for the previous God of War. It is therefore a studio that has been collaborating with Sony over the years and that has “naturally” joined the Japanese company, as is typical for PlayStation.

Although Sony has previously claimed to invest in “organic growth”, in practice this is not what we are seeing and Xbox’s steps are being followed. Of course, nothing the size of a Bethesda or even close yet.

They’ve also worked as a support team on many great games from Microsoft, like Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport 7 and State of Decay 2. Speaking of third-party games, they’ve worked on the development of League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, Valorant , Ark Extinction, La Terra di Mmezzo, Shadow of War and more. The impression is that this is a support team, which will help Sony produce its own games from other teams. At the moment, however, we don’t have precise information on what Valkyrie Entertainment’s long-term goal will be now that it is part of PlayStation Studios.
