Sony confirms the name and further details of the new VR headset

Surprisingly, Sony officially presented the new generation of in-house VR hardware at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. As expected, the virtual reality headset will appear in stores under the name PlayStation VR2. The associated new input devices are called Sense Controllers. The design of PlayStation VR2 has not yet been revealed, but there are many details about the functions of the upcoming VR glasses.

Among other things, PSVR2 will be equipped with an OLED screen, which will offer a resolution of 2000×2040 pixels per eye at 90 / 120Hz including HDR support. The field of view is 110 degrees. The VR headset is connected with just a single cable that you connect directly to your PlayStation 5. Another highlight is the new so-called “Sense Technology” from PSVR2. This not only includes eye tracking, but also headset feedback, which is intended to provide an immersive VR experience with the help of vibrations on the head. The sense controllers are recognized with inside-out tracking by the integrated cameras in the VR glasses. An external camera is no longer necessary. Sony has not yet given any information about the price and release.

In addition, Sony has also announced a first game that will be released exclusively for PlayStation VR2. This is Horizon: Call of the Mountain, which is currently under development at Guerrilla Games and Firesprite. As an announcement, there is also a first teaser trailer with short scenes from the VR adventure with Aloy.
