Surgeon Simulator 2 has a tough day on its Xbox Game Pass launch

Surgeon Simulator 2 was released on the Xbox Game Pass yesterday (September 2nd) and while many are eager to get into some medical chaos with friends, it is unfortunately suffering from some initial issues.

Yesterday I saw a large influx of players diving into the game, which caused some tension. Long load times were present when trying to login, multiplayer was a failure and, from our own experiences, some glitches were present.

Fortunately, the developers at Bossa Studios are aware of the many issues and are working effortlessly to bring these fixes to Xbox as quickly as possible. Constant communication has been provided through the game’s Discord and the current issues the team is working on consist of:

  • Authentication Issues
  • Multiplayer and chat do not work correctly
  • Stopped while loading/black screen
  • In-Game Ban Notifications
  • Long loading times
  • Daily challenges that don’t seek or carry
  • A hotfix has been released for PC gamers, however the team continues to investigate Xbox issues around players not being able to join the game.

At the time this article was written, the team has confirmed that the version for Xbox “has more significant issues” due to the influx of Game Pass players. More updates are promised to arrive today, but some players may already notice some improvements after some nightly work.

It’s a shame, but luckily Bossa Studios is working hard to fix these issues. While it’s easy to say they should be prepared, it’s not always that simple with such an unknown number of players diving with Game Pass. Hopefully, in a few days, these issues will be forgotten and players will be able to wreak havoc in the operating room again.
