The last game of the first batch of Xbox Game Pass titles for October is now available, in the form of the strange and unusual RPG, The Good Life. It’s release, so it’s something you should play by yourself and find out if it’s to your liking.
What is The Good Life you may be wondering? Good question. It’s a hard title to describe, but we’ll do our best. Essentially, you play a journalist known as Naomi Hayward, which was called to unravel the mystery of a small English village known as Rainy Woods. The mystery? The townspeople seem to turn into cats and dogs at night. While that happens, a murder happens too.
From a game point of view, you will spend most of the time unraveling the web of mysteries, taking pictures and even transforming into a cat or dog to sniff out disturbances. There’s also an agricultural aspect of Stardew Valley to sink your teeth into.
Journalist Naomi Hayward is drowning in debt and at the end of her life. Having accepted a request from The Morning Bell to “unravel the mystery of a small English town,” Naomi finds herself far from her New York home in Rainy Woods. Upon starting her investigation, Naomi – camera in hand – soon discovers an inexplicable phenomenon in which townspeople turn into cats and dogs at nightfall… Then, as she’s looking at that particular mystery, a murder occurs… Join herself to her as she tries to reveal the truth about Rainy Woods.
Developed by Hidetaka “SWERY” Suehiro, who worked on other weird titles like Deadly Premonition, the influences here are easy to spot. The Good Life looks as crazy as you can expect and although the reviews can be mixed with a Metacritic score of 65, but if you like the theme and don’t care about grades, give it a try.
