Unknown Worlds (Subnautica) is to be taken over

Krafton Inc. (PUBG) would like to Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the makers of Subnautica and Natural Selection. The planned takeover should help the South Korean publisher to expand and diversify its own game portfolio.

The structure and management of Unknown Worlds are to be retained after the takeover in order to preserve the “creative identity of the studio”, according to the announcement. In addition to the ongoing updates for Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero, Unknown Worlds is currently working on a new, “genre-defining game,” which should go into Early Access in 2022. Another Subnautica game is unlikely (according to an interview earlier this year).

Unknown Worlds will then be Krafton’s sixth independent game development studio – along with PUBG Studios, Striking Distance Studios (The Callisto Protocol), Bluehole Studio, RisingWings and Dreamotion.
