After the Yakuza and Judgment series, the developers of Ryo Ga Gotuko want to venture into new realms. As we reported last month, development studio Ryo Ga Gotuko is working on its famous Yakuza series and will bring fans an eighth installment. Yakuza 8 will take place a few years after the events of the seventh part and will continue the story of the Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga.
But that’s not supposed to be the only game the studio is working on. In an interview with the Japanese game magazine Famitsu, the studio manager Masayoshi Yokoyama stated that other projects outside of the Yakuza series are being planned. This includes the action-adventure series Judgment, which is a spin-off of the Yakuza games from 2018. “We will also take care of the Judgment series”he said, but did not go so far as to confirm that a third game in the series was officially in development.
The reason for this could be the ongoing disputes between the agency of Judgment actor Takuya Kimura and publisher Sega. Sega had planned to bring a PC version onto the market, which the agency had simply blocked. However, the studio is not being stopped by such setbacks and is also working on a completely new brand. “Beyond Judgment, we would also like to tackle a completely new game as soon as the conditions are in place.”said Yokoyama. “In addition to Yakuza and Judgment, we are also working on other unannounced titles.”
